Dall'Australia per onorare il nonno Pasquale Vitocco ucciso ad Assergi nell'Operazione Quercia

Last year, the Gran Sasso Tourist Center remembered the carabineer Giovanni Natale and the forest guard Pasquale Vitocco, who lost their lives in the German army's blitz that led to the liberation of Mussolini from the Campo Imperatore's Prison.
Two victims of the”Operazione Quercia” forgotten by history that, after many years, regained their dignity of the memory through the naming of the Monte and Valle della Funivia del Gran Sasso stations, with two plaques that were uncovered by the relatives of the victims and blessed by the parson Don Giovanni Gatto.

In recent days, Pasquale Vitocco's nephews, living in Australia, returned to Assergi to pay homage to their grandfather Pasquale. In the photo taken under the plaque that reminds Nonno Pasquale, from left Lina, Giocondina, Arnaldo and Diana.

"It was a great honour to see two memorial plaques made in honour of our grandfather Nonno Pasqualino Vitocco. Our grandfather was the guard of our little town called Assergi in Italy. In 1943 Nonno became a victim of WWII. After all these years in 2016, our Grandfather earned recognition and the town made two plaques in his honour" - is the comment posted on Facebook by Lina.

Il Centro Turistico del Gran Sasso, lo scorso anno ha voluto ricordare il carabinere Giovanni Natale e la guardia forestale Pasquale Vitocco, che persero la vita nel blitz dell’esercito tedesco che portò alla liberazione di Mussolini dalla prigione di Campo Imperatore.
Due vittime dell’Operazione Quercia dimenticate dalla Storia che, dopo tanti anni, hanno ritrovato la dignità del ricordo attraverso l’intitolazione delle stazioni di Monte e di Valle della Funivia del Gran Sasso, con due targhe che sono state scoperte dai parenti delle vittime e benedette dal parroco don Giovanni Gatto.

Nei giorni scorsi, anche i nipoti di Pasquale Vitocco che vivono in Australia sono tornati ad Assergi per rendere omaggio al nonno Pasquale. Nella foto scattata sotto la targa che ricorda Nonno Pasquale, da sinistra Lina, Giocondina, Arnaldo e Diana.
